Larmer Tree Festival 2012

Amadou & Mariam

Amadou & Mariam

Larmer Tree Festival 2012 was a year to remember – for mud and for music!

It didn’t rain, it poured, but undeterred campers made the most of it, especially the children who turned up in wet suits and goggles to dive in.

Jools Holland and special guest Roland Gift (Fine Young Cannibals), headlined on Wednesday 11th July, Paloma Faith headlined Thursday, and for the weekend, Levellers topped the bill on Friday and Amadou & Mariam on Saturday. Joss Stone made a special guest appearance a few songs in to the Yes Sir Boss set, much to the delight of the crowds.

Headlining the comedy acts was Tim Minchin who took to the Thursday night main stage – the first ever comedian to be given main stage exposure. Accompanied only by his grand piano, his energetic performance delighted the crowd.

The Carnival Procession on Sunday afternoon was on the theme of ‘The United Colours of Larmer Tree.’ It wound its way through the gardens as the main stage was given over to the procession compere. A riot of sound and colour, the hard work of the carnival workshops was evident.

Founder and Co-Director of Larmer Tree Festival James Shepard said:  “We always work hard to achieve a great balance between well known, popular artists and up and coming talent on the brink of stardom” – the 2012 mix was just that.
