Behind The Castle

A new festival for 2014, Behind the Castle was held in the beautiful setting of Sherborne Castle on Saturday 14th June.

Around 2,500 attended and with three stages of music, food stalls and bars there was plenty to keep you entertained. It was a thirsty crowd though and they managed to drink the bar dry of beer.

Top of the bill were Newton Faulkner, The Levellers, Seth Lakeman and Paul Brady who all appeared on the main stage. Cara Dillon, Steve Knightley, Boat to Row, Megan Henwood, Sheelanagig, Jack McNeill and Charlie Heys appeared on stage 2 and Dorset bands Ninebarrow and Tinderbox were amongst the acts  in the Marnhull Acoustic Sessions Stage.

Newton Faulkner said: “I had a great time. It was a really good crowd. It’s an amazing site and I’d be amazed if this didn’t happen quite a few times. It’s a great vibe.”

Seth Lakeman said: “It was fantastic. What an amazing venue to play at looking back at the castle and across the estate grounds. It was absolutely stunning – quite a magical evening and the crowd were brilliant – so receptive and warm.”

The event was the idea of festival organiser Ian Lyster who said: “Thanks to all the crowd for making it the day it was. Thanks to the acts for a string of classy performances. Most importantly bring on next year.”

The 2015 festival has sadly now been cancelled.
