Olympic windsurfer Nick Dempsey has become the first man to achieve two windsurfing World Championship titles.

He took gold in the RS:X World Windsurfing Championships in Brazil, beating Dutch Olympic champion Dorian Van Rijsselberge. His first gold was on home waters in Weymouth and Portland in 2009.

With windsurfing reinstated as an Olympic sport, the championships have been great preparation for Rio 2016.

“I think it’s going to suit me there. It’s going be slightly lighter in Rio than here but I’m one of the smaller guys in the fleet so hopefully that will work in my favour,” he said.

Fellow Dorset windsurfer Bryony Shaw took the silver in the women’s fleet – her first podium finish.
