Armed Forces to be honoured in Purbeck

Service men and women are to be honoured on Monday 23 June 2014 in Wareham.

Residents and visitors are invited to join the ceremony at Purbeck District Council’s offices in Worgret Road, Wareham at 10.30am.

Colonel John Ogden, Commander Armour Centre Bovington; local Soldiers and Marines; and local dignitaries will be taking part in the ceremony.

Councillor Bill Trite, Chairman of Purbeck District Council, said: “The District of Purbeck has a strong, long-time bond with our Armed Forces. This year is of particular significance in view of the military anniversaries falling in 2014, especially those of D-Day in 1944 and the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.

“The flag will be raised at the Purbeck District Council offices to mark the Council’s appreciation on behalf of our local community.”

After introductions from the District Council, Colonel Ogden will respond on behalf of the Armed Forces living and working in Dorset

The annual Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 28 June and is an opportunity for the nation to show its support to the service men and women past and present.
