Just a stone’s throw from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, Jurassic Fields music festival is blessed with one of the UK’s most idyllic locations at West Bay Fields.
Just a year ago, Jurassic Fields was saved from extinction when Dorset-based company Immense Events and Bars Ltd, who have run the successful Poole Harbour Festival for ten years, took over the reins just in time to stage the event.
This year, the stellar line up is headed by multi-million selling, chart topping pop rockers Scouting For Girls. As they hit the festival circuit this summer building towards a massive 20th anniversary weekend at Wembley early next year, fans can expect a hit-packed set of classic including This Ain’t a Love Song, She’s So Lovely and Elvis Ain’t Dead.
Further Main Stage highlights include noughties hitmakers Feeder, festival faves Goldie Lookin’ Chain, multi-platinum sellers Space, and UK garage pioneers Artful Dodger, as well as The South playing the hits of The Beautiful South, dancefloor dynamite from Dub Pistols, Freestylers and N-Trance, and the near-legendary one-man blues box Funke and the Two Tone Baby.
“Jurassic Fields has to be one of the great UK festival locations – the sea air, the beautiful Jurassic Coast and the lush site, no wonder it’s a happy place for thousands of music fans,” says festival organiser Ben Dyas.
“When we stepped in last summer to save the festival, we took a risk, but artists, crews and fans alike showed their support and this year’s line up is pretty much our dream bill. West Dorset has a really strong live music scene and we’re passionate about celebrating that at Jurassic Fields with lots of acts from our region on the support bill.”
These include local rock-pop hero Chris Payn & the Parade, award-winning folk artist Gaz Brookfield and his band, Bristol’s finest soulful D&B outfit Dr Meaker, Exeter rockers Stillyano, and Dorset duo Shelby’s Elbows.
The Dance Tent hosts legendary DJs including Happy Mondays/Black Grape star Bez, rave originator Brandon Block and Radio 1 regular Dave Pearce; while top UK tributes includes Artificial Monkeys, Fleetwood Mad, Oasiss and The Fillers guarantee the hit count is sky high.
Add to that the budget-friendly pricing policy, a free local shuttle bus service, on-site camping (including camper vans), and a full programme of free kids’ entertainment with dinosaur shows, the Mad4Anmals shows, bubble shows and storyteller Mark Fraser with Jamie Jambo, Mr Merlin and Count Backwards and it’s easy to see why Jurassic Fields has got it going on this summer.
